Three sentenced to life for gang rape of a Dalit woman in Maharashtra

Solapur (Maharashtra): In a 12 year old case of a gang rape of Dalit woman from Solapur district of Maharashtra, the session court finds all three accused guilty and sentenced them to life imprisonment.

Additional Session Judge Vikas Kulkarni on Wednesday sentenced Prakash Adare, Vibhu Jadhav and Samadhan Pawar to life imprisonment after finding them guilty of offences under Atrocities Act and other sections of IPC. The court also imposed fine of Rs. 25,000 each on the youths.

All the three convicted were in their 20s at the time of committing of an offence.

In Karodegaon of Barshi taluka of Solapur district, a dalit woman who was 30 years old was gang raped by the convicted youths on the evening of September 3, 2003 at around 7.30pm. She was raped near the Bhagwati River in the town and was left there with an intimidation not to report the incidence.

The lady after assuming consciousness had filed a case before Virag police station due to which the offenders were arrested.

The court examined medical report and 6 independent witnesses including the testimony of a doctor before pronouncing sentence to the culprits.
