Nagpur: Minorities Democratic Party (MDP) has submitted a memorandum to the President and Governor through the Nagpur Collector demanding that Yakub Memon’s death sentence by hanging be converted into life imprisonment.
Memon, the lone death convict in the case pertaining to 1993 serial bomb blasts in Mumbai is scheduled to be execute on Thursday, July 30 and the Supreme Court has on Tuesday referred to a larger bench the decision about his hanging.
“The government should not indulge into politics in the name of religion against Muslims,” the memorandum, which was handed over to the Collector by Minorities Democratic Party’s office bearers and members on Monday, a statement said here.
The delegation included Taufique Patel, party’s Maharashtra president, Er Sajid Ansari, Nagpur president, Muhammed Yusuf Raza, vice president, central body, Sayyed Asim Ali, Nagpur general secretary, Sayyed Sharique, vice president, West Central Body, Naim Nawab, north general secretary, Central Body, Sayyed Sajid Central Body, (Central) and members Raza Ahmed, Imran Khan, Irfan Gulam Raza, Nafees Razvi, Nawaz Khan and others, the statement said.
