Ambedkar Foundation appoints AMU prof. to manage Urdu translation of Ambedkar writings

Aligarh: Professor Mohammad Asim Siddiqui from the Department of English, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has been appointed as the managing editor for the coordination of the project on translation and publication of the writings and speeches of Baba Saheb Dr B R Ambedkar in Urdu language.

This project had been undertaken by Dr Ambedkar Foundation, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, a release from the AMU said.

This is part of Ambedkar Foundation’s project to translate Dr. Ambedkar’s work in Indian languages. So far they have published three books in Urdu.

Professor Siddiqui recently attended a meeting held in the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. As the Ambedkar Foundation plans to organize many events on the occasion of the 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar in 2016, the translation of his work assumes further significance.

In a meeting attended by Sudhir Hilsayan, the editor, Jagdeesh Prasad, the marketing manager, both with the Ambedkar Foundation, and Professor Siddiqui, the AMU Vice Chancellor stressed AMU’s commitment to the task, the release added.
