Ramadan has had a quiet start in Bombay this year, with the city having come to a virtual standstill for the second day in a row, due to incessant rainfall. The city has received almost 350mm of rain in 30 hours, and a similar amount is expected in the next 48 hours. Advisories were issued to stay indoors and areas like Mahim, Dongri and Chor Bazaar, which usually see chaotic crowds during Ramadan, were virtually empty, despite it being a Friday. Husain, who runs a shop of curios near Mutton Street sits and broods over another lost day of business.
