AMU, Jamia ranked ‘A’ by NAAC

Aligarh/New Delhi: The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and the Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), both have secured Grade A by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), which recently conducted an assessment exercise at the respective University campuses.

Both the Universities had invited the NAAC for the first time.

The NAAC, in its assessment result of 130 First Cycle institutions, published March 3, 2015 after the 5th meeting of its Standing Committee, gave 3.35 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) to AMU, a release from AMU said.

JMI was assessed on the criteria which included: 1. Curriculum Aspects; 2. Teaching, Learning and Evaluation; 3. Research Consultancy and Extension; 4. Infrastructure and Learning Resources; 5. Students Support and Progression; 6. Governance, Leadership and Management and 7. Innovations and Best Practices, a release from Jamia said.

Lt Gen Zameer Uddin Shah, AMU vice chancellor, has expressed happiness and congratulated students, faculty members and non-teaching staff on the historic achievement. “It was a collective effort of all members of the University fraternity, which created a niche for AMU amongst the few best universities in India,” he said.

Responding to the news, Professor Talat Ahmad, JMI vice-chancellor, expressed his happiness and satisfaction at the outcome of the long-drawn NAAC-related preparedness with which the university was engaged with. He congratulated the teachers, students, staff and parents for their valuable contribution. He said it was a collective achievement of all the stake-holders in the university.

A high profile NAAC peer team led by Professor G N Qazi, vice chancellor of Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi visited the AMU on February 9-12, 2015 and carried a comprehensive assessment on various yardsticks.

About Jamia’s ‘A’, Ahmad made a special mention for the measures initiated by President Pranab Mukherjee, who is also the Visitor of the University, for the promotion of research, innovation, best practices and linkages with industry and society in the larger interest of access, equity and quality in higher education, the release added.
