Special assembly session for no-trust against Andhra speaker

Hyderabad : The Andhra Pradesh assembly will have a special session on April 4 to take up a no-confidence motion moved by the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) against the speaker.

The decision to call the special session was taken at the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting presided over by Speaker K. Siva Prasada Rao.

The budget session, which began on March 7, is scheduled to conclude on Friday.

The opposition party last week gave notice for the no-confidence motion against the speaker for allegedly being “biased” against it.

YSRCP president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy has alleged that the speaker is behaving like a worker of the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) by muzzling the voice of the opposition.

Eight members of YSRCP were suspended from the house on March 19 for three days for stalling the proceedings. They were protesting against the speaker cutting Jaganmohan Reddy’s mike.

The leader of opposition had led his remaining members out of the house and decided to boycott the rest of the session, except when the no-confidence motion is to be taken up.

YSRCP has 67 members in the 175-member assembly.

The TDP has a comfortable majority with 102 legislators. Its coalition partner has four members.
