Hyderabad: Leading non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have agreed to develop long term community based collaboration with the Department of Social Work of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU).
According to Professor Mohammad Shahid, Head, Department of Social Work, about 20 representatives of several NGOs participated at the meeting which was held recently at MANUU, a release from MANUU said here.
“The objective of the meeting was to review the contribution of the students who do their internship with the NGOs; re-orient them for better results and also explore the possibility of their placements. We wish to make the fieldwork of the students better planned and outcome oriented,” Professor Shahid said.
Dr Aftab Alam, the fieldwork coordinator, highlighted the need to improve the quality of field engagement of MSW students and make long term community based collaborations with the agencies.
Term wise plan, working process and report writing techniques were explained in detail along with restructuring of fieldwork days and semester wise placement of students. The modalities of long term relationship would be worked out by the faculty in consultation with the NGOs.
Rubina Mazhar, CEO, Safa India Society, Dr Sandhya Padma, MNJ Cancer Hospital, A M Raja Reddy, Don Bosco Navajeevan, Prashant, Family Planning Association of India, Rafia Nausheen, Mahita, Srinivas Reddy, Hyderabad Leprosy Control and Health Society, Shams, Hyderabad Council for Human Welfare and Deepak, Bharuka Charitable Trust were among those who participated in the meeting.
Shyna Saif, faculty member, Department of Social Work, recapitulated the major outcome of the interaction and suggested that mutual reciprocity can help in achieving the goal of developing trained social workers in the future. Mohammad Israr Alam, faculty and Student’s Advisor, proposed the vote of thanks, the release from Abid Abdul Wasay, MANUU Public Relations Officer, said.
