Mosul (Iraq): The Islamic State (IS) terrorist outfit executed Iraqi journalist Feras Yasin on charges of apostasy and showing no remorse, according to the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate.
The execution took place on Tuesday night in central Mosul, northern Iraq, and the IS delivered the body to the relatives of the victim at a forensic institute on Wednesday morning, according to Sufian al-Mashhadani, a member of the syndicate.
As the IS deemed the executed journalist an apostate, the jihadi group prohibited the family from holding funeral services for the victim.
The journalist, who was known as Feras al-Bahr, was abducted by extremists in mid-April from his home in the al-Qadesiya neighbourhood of northeastern Mosul.
Before Mosul fell to IS in June 2014, he had worked for a year and half as a producer on the Nineveh of Tomorrow television channel, owned by Ethil al-Nejify, the governor of Nineveh province, of which Mosul is the capital.
Al-Mashhadani complained that IS operatives arrest and execute reporters and journalists of Mosul “in a terrible, suspicious and worrying way”.
On April 27, the jihadis killed journalist Thaer al-Ali, editor-in-chief of the newspaper Rai al-Nas, who was held prisoner for 20 days.
Seven other journalists remain in IS prisons, including correspondent Qais Talal and cameraman Ashraf al-Abadi, both with Sama al-Mosul channel, and a television reporter for al-Mosuliya channel, Mohanad al-Oqidi.
