By TCN news,

Guwahati: It was Manjunara Khatun, a degree 4th semester student of Hatidura College, who had stopped the motorcade of Maulana Badruddin Ajmal, MP, last year to ask him to set up a college in her village in Kokrajhar district so that girls could pursue education after school without any difficulty.

Ajmal was impressed by her courage and commitment to the cause of education, and assured her that her request would be considered. That request bore fruit and on Monday the Ajmal College of Arts was inaugurated at Hasrawbari, an interior village in Gossaigaon Sub Division of Kokrajhar district in Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD).

Badruddin Ajmal, along with a number of MLAs and MCLAs of the area was present on the occasion.

The girl had told the MP that her college was at a distance of over 30 kms from her village and often she had to brave the sun and the rain to traverse the distance through paddy fields, marshy lands and forests.

Jatindra Nath Brahma, litterateur and father figure in the field of education in BTAD, speaking on the occasion, said: “A community which had no education was like dead wood. Education is the mirror that reflects the image of the community.”
