Jamshedpur : In a bid to mark the birth anniversary of Birsa Munda, the iconic tribal freedom fighter who fought for the rights of tribals over forests and lands, Tata Steel has organised a four-day conclave for tribals.
The conclave, attended by over 1,500 delegates and 40 tribes from 19 states, is aimed at bringing languages and ways of living of the India tribal’s to the mainstream, commenced in Gopal Maidan, Jamshedpur on Sunday, November, 15.
‘Samvaad: A tribal conclave-2015’ whose second edition started on Sunday, will showcase a photo gallery offering insights into the indigenous cultures, handicrafts exhibition and tribal delicacies as some the major draws of the conclave, besides cultural performances by tribals.
The conclave will witness 40 indigenous tribes like the Santal community of Jharkhand, Siddis of Gujarat, Irulas of Kerala, Bodos from Assam, Dhurwa tribe of Odisha, Karubas from Karnataka and Konda Reddis from Andhra Pradesh, among others six new tribes from Karnataka, Gujarat, Meghalaya Sikkim and Andhra Pradesh participate in the conclave for the first time.
The emphasis for this year’s Samvaad is preservation, protection and promotion of tribal languages, which is invariably a discerning topic in our country today. Samvaad aims to provide a common platform to stimulate valuable exchange and cross-pollination of aspects and issues that surround the Indian tribal culture and heritage.
Speaking about the initiative, “This year, we expect even larger participation in this event for tribal communities to come together, share collective wisdom so as to stimulate valuable exchange of knowledge and ideas” T V Narendran, Managing Director, Tata Steel India and South East Asia, said in a statement.
