Dharwad (Karnataka) : The protest over killing of rationalist and veteran Kannada writer, MM Kalburgi has not yet settled down as a group of intellectuals have called for ‘Dandi chalo’ on January 30th, the day when Mahatma Gandhi was martyred, reported Goa News.
A decision in this regard was announced in a meeting held in Vidhya Vardhak Sangh hall in Dharwad Karnatka on Friday, November 27th where over 50 writers had gathered for a daylong programme in remembrance of Kannada writer Prof M M Kalburgi, known for his strong stand against superstitious practices and right-wing groups, who was killed on 30 August this year.
The writers who visited the family of Prof Kalburgi, gathered on the event have extended call to all the writers, scientists, activists, artists, historians, and all other like-minded people to gather at Dandi, a place from where Mahatma Gandhi had initiated his historic march in colonial India to produce salt from seawater.
Prof Ganesh Devi, a tribal activist and veteran writer, has been chosen as a convenor of ‘Chalo Dandi’ to co-ordinate with the whole intelligentsia class and other people.
Meanwhile, two more Kannada writers in a meeting held on Friday have declared to returning their state awards in protest of the killings and incompetency of the state authorities in nabbing the killers of Kalburgi till date.
Pertinently, Prof MM Kalburgi was allegedly shot dead for his views on idol worship and Hindu rituals earlier this year in which members of Hindu right wing organization, Sri Rama Sene are alleged to be involved.
