Rajasthan Govt under fire for cancelling Eid holiday for college officials

Jaipur: Many organizations here have collectively condemned Rajasthan government’s decision to cancel Eid-ul-Adha holiday by organizing a blood donation camps in all government and private colleges throughout the state on the same day when the Muslim festival falls.

In an order issued on September 2 and 3 by the state government to all government and private college Principals it has instructed to organise blood donation camps in their respective colleges on September 25 as a celebration of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay’s Birth anniversary.

As per the issued directives, it is also told “not to grant leave and off” from headquarters on September 24 itself. This decision of government is squarely condemned all over by Muslim and other organizations.

Addressing to the media here on Thursday, office bearers of ten different organizations termed cancellation of gazetted holiday of Eid-ul-Adha on September 25 by state government as unconstitutional and direct violation of civil rights.

Sawai Singh, President, Forum for Democracy and Communal Amity (F.D.C.A.) Rajasthan said while talking to the media, “The state government’s initiate of organising blood donation camp on the occasion of birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay which eventually falls on the gazetted holiday of Eid-ul-Adha is unconstitutional”.

“BJP government of centre and state is moving forward to implement its communal agenda and creating certain issues which are causing dismay among the minorities and they are compelled to oppose”, he added while addressing a press conference.

Eng. Mohd. Saleem, All India General Secretary of Jamaat Islami Hind criticized the government, “that it is apparently a violation of civil rights of the lecturers and other linking officers. India is a democratic country where every citizen has freedom to celebrate his religious festivals. The government can’t compel us to celebrate birth anniversary of a person who is a leader and ideologue of a particular organisation and a political party”.

If parties to whom Pandit was associated with, he added, “celebrate his birth anniversary, we have no objection, but if it is celebrated on government level rejecting the gazetted holiday, it is highly objectionable, we will oppose it and demand to revoke the same”.

The press conference was addressed by the office bearers of different social organisations that included Radhakant Saxena, State Vice President FDCA, TC Rahul, President Bhartiya Bodh Mahasabha Rajasthan, Abdul Lateef Arco, President Dalit-Muslim Ekta Manch, Father Vijay Paul Singh, President Masihi Shakti Sangathan, Advocate Paker Farooq, State President APCR, M. Nazimuddin, State Secretary JIH and MudaddiqMubeen, Campus Secretary SIO Of India Rajasthan.

All these organisations have also expressed resolve to approach court if the decision of cancelling the Eid holiday is not withdrawn by the state.
