“This step is being taken to discourage students from wasting time on frivolous activities during night hours. Under this measure internet accessibility will not be available in the Halls of residence from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. in the morning,” the University said in a press release.

On Monday, an emergency meeting of top AMU officials including all Deans, presided over by the AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah took note of the campus situation and decided that a high level probe by an “external agency” would be instituted to probe Sunday night’s campus violence.

The Vice Chancellor Lt. Gen. Shah said that this step had become necessary to identify those elements which “instigated” the violence.

One person was killed and over a dozen were injured on Sunday when student groups of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) clashed and set set varsity property, including vehciles and the proctor office on fire, police said.
