Polling ends for fourth phase in Bengal

Kolkata : Polling officially came to an end at 6 p.m. on Monday for 49 constituencies spread over two districts in West Bengal in the fourth phase of the assembly elections.

However, balloting continued in most places beyond the scheduled deadline as there were still a lot of people in queue outside the booths.

Till 3 p.m., over 67 percent of the more than 1.08 crore voters exercised their right to franchise, the Election Commission said.

Polling took place in the two districts of Howrah and North 24 Parganas. Balloting began at 7 a.m.

A total of 67.28 percent turnout was recorded till 3 p.m. — 67.27 percent in North 24 Parganas and 67.31 percent in Howrah — said an Election Commission official.
