New Delhi : Congress members in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday accused the central government of shutting down projects in Rae Bareli and Amethi, the constituencies of Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi.
Raising the issue, Pramod Tiwari of the Congress accused the central government of taking “revenge” against the people of Amethi and Rae Bareli for electing the Congress leaders.
Tiwari said the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Information Technology in Amethi was shut.
“About 148 students have been shifted from there. Forty female students were sent away earlier by force. In the last two years, food park was closed, Hindustan Paper Mill was closed, discovery park for farmers was also shut,” Tiwari added.
“The government is a continuous process, but this is the ugly side of politics that the projects in the constituencies of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are all being shut. It’s a revenge against the people who elected them,” Tiwari alleged.
He was backed by Congress member Rajeev Shukla and Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad.
“So many central projects are shutting down in the constituencies of Congress President and Vice-President. Why is it happening,” Azad questioned.
However, Union Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu said the government had no feeling of “revenge’, adding that he will ask the concerned ministers to get information.
“I agree that there should not be any feeling of revenge. I will collect information on the issues you have raised,” Naidu said.
“I assure this house there is no question of any revenge. Any government which comes to power have its own schemes,” the minister added.
