Lucknow: All India Majlis-E-Ittihadul Muslimeen President Asaduddin Owaisi will begin a three-day trip to Uttar Pradesh from Friday, August 5, as he looks to speak with his party workers and other political leaders to discuss possible alliances for the upcoming UP elections in 2017.
Owaisi will arrive in Lucknow on Friday night, and will also be visiting Kanpur during his trip. According to reports, Owaisi will meet journalists on Saturday, following which he will address party workers in the afternoon. The party will be hosting a rally on Sunday in Kanpur and if he gets the nod from the district administration, Owaisi is likely to address the rally too. It is important to point that Owaisi has been denied entry in the state previously, at the orders of the state government.
Earlier this year, AIMIM had contested the Bikapur by elections by fielding a Dalit candidate, but the move did not work and the party lost. With the party aiming at votes from both Muslims and Dalits, it remains to be seen as to how Owaisi will look at potential alliances.
