Aligarh: The Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah, has urged the teachers, non-teaching staff, alumni and other well wishers of the University to come forward for the restoration of University Jama Masjid, and contribute meaningfully from their salaries to raise a fund of Rs. One Crore, required for the conservation and preservation of the grand old mosque and its adjoining areas.
Pointing out the importance of philanthropy in such activities, the Vice Chancellor said that during his visit to Oxford University, he was impressed by the grandeur of the architecture and the way they were preserved throughout the five hundred years of their existence. He said that Sir Syed must be impressed with this architecture when he decided to recreate the “Oxford of the East” at Aligarh with the beautiful buildings like Jama Masjid and Strachey Hall.
The VC also called upon other members of AMU fraternity to make donations to AMU Conservation Committee through bank transfers to the Canara Bank’s AMU Branch Account Number 5247101002800 under IFSC Code CNRB0005247 and MICR Code 202015013.
He hoped that with the active support of alumni, AMU staff and other well wishers, the University will be able to restore the pristine beauty of the Jama Masjid, the Central Mosque of the Campus.
