Kolkata : West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday questioned the safety aspect of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Digital India” initiative in the wake of hackers’ attacks on personal details of some senior journalists.
Banerjee, also the Trinamool Congress supremo, claimed it is an attempt at “intimidating and silencing” voices.
“Seeing reports about hacking of accounts and bank details of journalists. This is not about public interest… It’s about violating privacy. It is an attempt at intimidating and silencing voices. Govt says ‘go digital’ and promises us it is safe,” Banerjee said in Twitter.
Senior journalists Barkha Dutt and Ravish Kumar’s Twitter accounts were hacked recently by a group calling itself “Legion”, which had earlier broken into Vijay Mallya’s and Rahul Gandhi’s accounts.
“If it’s so safe, how are journalists’ bank A/C details being made public for millions by hackers? Digital India stands exposed, Modi Babu,” Banerjee tweeted.
