Aurangabad: The personal assistant of Maharashtra Waqf board CEO has been put under suspension after recovery of incriminating documents from his chamber, giving rise to a strong suspicion of his involvement in corruption.
Ifteqarullah Baig was recruited as a clerk-cum-typist in 1986 and is currently holding the charge of board’s stenographer, nodal officer, personal assistant of the CEO and typist-cum-clerk.
He was recently shunted out to Amravati as a regional Waqf officer. After transfer, his chamber was found to have stored rubber stamps, blank letter heads of the Waqf CEO and various other members, about 250 important files on various prime properties across the state and soft copies of around 2,300 files in his computer.
The search was carried out under the orders of board’s CEO Naseem Bano Patel and sealed later.
Patel on Sunday said she would conduct a detailed probe into the manner. All the documents and papers drafted by Baig will be scanned for legalities, she said.
Reports have suggested that there have been many allegations against Baig. Besides, his name is also allegedly in the reports submitted by various committees.
Speaking with Times of India, Baig said, “I am being targeted by a Waqf faction and some land sharks. I am being looked up as a hurdle between them and their vilified interests in Waqf properties.”
He has also termed the suspension order illegal citing that he was not served any show-cause notice.
