Panaji : The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) don’t reflect well in international rankings despite their high calibre because of a perception handicap, Union HRD minister Prakash Javadekar said on Saturday.
Speaking at the inauguration of a new IIT in Goa, he said the perception parameter accounted for 40 per cent in the international ranking framework of global tech institutions.
“Though we are best, we are not ranked on top, because 40 per cent marks are for perception in the international ranking framework,” Javadekar said.
The minister said that his ministry would wage a battle to address the issue of perception in order to enhance the global ranking of IITs.
The new IIT here will be set up temporarily on the campus of the Goa Engineering College in Farmagudi, 25 kms from Panaji, following which it will be shifted to its permanent location on Loliem village in Canacona sub-district in South Goa.
