Aligarh : The Aligarh Medical Alumni Association of North America (AMAANA) has conferred the third Sir Syed Lifetime Achievement Award to Aligarh Muslim University Vice Chancellor, Professor Tariq Mansoor.
The award was announced in AMAANA’s biennial meet held at Holiday Inn, Skokie IL in Chicago, IL, the USA, which was attended by more than 80 physicians and their families from all across the United States, Canada and India.
In an interaction with US-based alumni through Skype, Prof Mansoor delivered a speech and thanked the organizers for the award. A question and answers session followed the speech.
Meeta Bhushan (Consul General of India in Chicago, USA), who attended the function as the Chief Guest was conferred with the Award of Appreciation from AMAANA. She spoke on 70 years of India’s progress.
Prof Amanullah Khan, Dean, Faculty of Medicine and Principal, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC) spoke on advancements in various areas of health care at Aligarh. Reminiscing his last USA visit in 1984, Prof Khan talked about the interaction he then shared with JNMC graduates pursuing education and jobs in the US.
In one of the sessions of AMAANA meeting, Dr Abdul Wase (MD, FACC, FACP, FHRS), who is also the President of AMAANA spoke on the achievements of AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Mansoor informing that he had attended the Our Lady of Fatima School in Aligarh with Prof Mansoor.
Dr Wase also presented a lecture on ‘Sudden Cardiac Arrest’ (SCA). Dr Shamim Khan, MD FACC and a JNMC graduate of 1992 batch presented a review of ‘Trans-catheter Aortic Valve Replacement’ (TAVR). Dr Sadia Chaghtai, Secretary, AMAANA, read a detailed report, which included AMAANA’s contributions to AMU. Dr Tazeen Beg, Vice President, AMAANA proposed the vote of thanks.
