Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, while expressing deep concern over coordinated atrocities targeted upon Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar, has urged the world powers to take immediate steps to stop it.
In a statement released to media, JUH President Maulana Qari Mohammad Usman Mansoorpuri and General Secretary Maulana Mahmood Madani pressed the United Nations to convene security council meeting for setting a deadline for Myanmar to change its attitude. In case of non-abiding, it should be warned against the military action and economic blockade.
Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind has especially urged the Government of India to not stop its traditional humanitarian treatment with Rohingya Muslims who are forced to take assylum in India. In this regard, India should follow developed nations including European Unions.
Mahmood Madani said, “The Myanmar government has failed its duty to protect the life and property of innocent citizens in Rakhine state. It is very sad that the Myanmar government, instead of responding to the concerns of the international community in a positive and constructive manner, is showing arrogance by alluding to the security forces who are found involved in indiscriminate firing on civilians and burning their houses.”
Madani felt dismayed over the silence of the Aung San Suu Kyi, despite being in power in the country. Her studied silence is giving courage to perpetrators of crimes against the most persecuted minorities, said Maulana Mahmood Madani.
He stressed that the issue of Rohingya Muslims should not be looked upon from religious perspective but this is entirely a humanitarian crisis. The regional powers must come forward to resolve it on this ground, said Jamiat in the press statement.
Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind has also demanded to conduct an international inquiry into the recent violence, granting free access to humanitarian aid groups and international media; Rehabilitation to those who have been uprooted and forced to live in crammed camps without necessary amenities. It has also asked to grant citizenship rights which have been denied to them under citizenship law of 1982 which is incompatible with international human rights standards enshrined in UN charts.
As per the statement, JUH has stressed that all those who have taken refuge in other countries should be acknowledged as citizens of Myanmar enabling them to acquire refugee status and protection by UN agencies.
Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind has appealed to the Indian Muslims to observe Friday as “Special prayer day” for Rohingya Muslims and conduct special dua in Friday prayers.
