Election 2108-High time to save Democracy in Telangana State

TCN News

Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee in its press release have stated that in view of the coming Assembly elections in the month of December the people of Telangana State should question the KCR led TRS government as to what their achievements have been in the last 4 ½ years. The coming elections are crucial for Telangana state because the promises made by K Chandrashekar Rao before coming in power have not been fulfilled.  Instead the situation in the state has worsened and people’s lives have become miserable more than earlier before the formation of the Telangana state.

Through their press release CLMC (Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee) wants to remind the people of Telangana about the all the promises broken by KCR so that they will not fall for his new promises.  The CLMC has alleged that KCR (Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao) is functioning as a feudal lord where he is not answerable to anyone nor the people have any right to question him.  He is running a dynasty with a namesake cabinet that has two deputy Chief Ministers where no one is allowed to work independently. The Government is run by 3 members of his family.

Some of the promises highlighted by the CLMC are:

  • In 2014 while campaigning for elections he had made a tall claim that he would appoint a Dalit for the post of CM but as soon as his party won he forgot his promise and himself became the CM.
  • Another promise was to give 12% reservations to Muslims but this promise also has turned out fake.
  • KCR promised employment up to 1 lakh jobs but did not fulfil this promise.
  • Homeless people were promised 2BHK flats but of 22 lakh beneficiaries only 5000 houses were built
  • Another false promise he made was a government job for one person in a family.
  • Other promises include supply of safe drinking water to every household in the entire state,
  • supply of water through construction of dams in rural Telangana to agricultural fields,
  • loans to women for self-employment,
  • abolition of contract employment system  and regularisation of all existing all contract employees.
  • He had also promised 2000 crores for the development of old city of Hyderabad but there is not even a single development in the old city which is neglected.

All these have remained empty promises disappointing the public.  KCR also promised establishing a utopia called GOLDEN TELANGANA (Bangaru Telangana) where Muslims and Dalits can live the life with human dignity.

But what happened was the opposite. Both Muslims and Dalits have been betrayed. under his regime 5 Muslim youth’s accused in a terror case, handcuffed and chained in a police escort bus, were brutally killed in the name of encounter and KCR’s regime went on to justify and support this ghastly killing. Now the time has arrived, for him to answer on his unpopular stance on the fake encounter killing.

Further in KCR’s regime Terrorists who have confessed of planting the bombs in Makkah Masjid were acquitted and he did not took any appropriate action to provide the justice to the victims of Makkah Masjid bomb blast. Because of the increasing of atrocities a fear complex and a sense of insecurity is developing among the masses.

Violation of human rights and civil liberties is at its peak under KCR’s regime. He has even curbed the right to register peaceful protest of the people of Telangana by removing the ‘dharna chowk’.

KCR is trying hard to weaken the very democratic institution that has given him the position of chief minister. Telangana state has almost turned into a police state and one family’s arbitrary rule is prevailing. Under this circumstances again Chandarashekar Rao is approaching the people of Telangana with bogus promises.

And even in this new speeches full of promises there is not a single word for about protecting Democracy or protecting the Human Rights of the people.

On behalf of Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee the General Secretary Lateef Mohammed Khan wants to remind the people of Telangana that the Democracy does not mean merely conducting Elections to capture the power, but the actual spirit of Democracy lies in the protection of the right to life of the People and to promote the democratic values in the society. And it is the primary duty of the chief minister to work in a Democratic manner and protect its Fundamental principles. But unfortunately here in Telangana Chandrashekar Rao has completely failed to protect  democracy and democratic rights and values. For Chandrashekar Rao Democracy has been reduced to promoting his family rule.   It is high time that the people should question Chandrashekar Rao and make him accountable or face the consequences of his undemocratic attitude. People of Telangana should question the ruling party on its false promises and arbitrary style of governance. Further the secretary of CLMC  appealed to the People of Telangana to give a fitting reply to the undemocratic and fascist forces through their power of vote on December 7th.
