Maulana Azad National Urdu University’s Instructional Media Centre has launched its cinema Club “Cinematheque MANUU” on Friday 26th October. An Iranian Film Festival has also been inaugurated in collaboration with Iran Culture House, New Delhi, University.

Dr.Mohammad Aslam Parvaiz, Vice-Chancellor presided over the inaugural session. Mr. Ali Asghar Rastgou, First Consul, Consulate General, Islamic Republic of Iran, Hyderabad, Prof. Shakeel Ahmad, Pro Vice-Chancellor, MANUU; Dr. M. A. Sikandar, Registrar, MANUU; Mr. Mohsen Ashouri, Cultural Attaché, Islamic Republic of Iran, Hyderabad were the guests of honour.

Mr. Rizwan Ahmad, Director IMC, explained that the idea behind Cinematheque MANUU is to offer students the chance to complement their studies with activities related to culture and personal development. It is a campus enrichment program wherein weekly open air screenings of cinema classics, educational programs, films and documentaries will be screened for the students and staff members.

An exhibition of the finest works of Mahmood Farshcian, who is a Master of Persian Paintings and miniatures was also inaugurated at IMC Auditorium in the evening the same day at 4:30 p.m. where even Iranian Handicrafts were exhibited.

Dr. Mohammad Aslam Parvaiz, Vice-Chancellor who declared open the Cinematheque MANUU described Persian as the dress of Urdu language and lauded the selection of Iranian films to be screened.

Mr. Ali Asghar Rastgou, Ist Consul, Consulate General Iran, called the festival a step forward to strengthen the traditional cultural ties between India and Iran.

Mr. Mohsen Ashouri, Cultural Attaché, Iran, presented an overview of the Iranian Films and said that they contain messages aimed at reforming the society.

Mr. Rizwan Ahmad, Director Media Centre in his welcome address, stressed the need to promote academic discourse on Cinema in the campuses. He described the launching of Cinematheque as historical step in the nascent institution.

Mr. Imtiaz Alam, Research Officer, conducted the proceedings. Mr. Omar Azmi, Producer, proposed vote of thanks.

The opening film of the festival “A cube of sugar” directed by Reza Mir Karimi was screened. The film festival will conclude on 3rd November.
