However when the key witnesses in the lynching, Irshad and Arif (both sons of the late Pehlu Khan) and Azmat and Rafiq were travelling in a car from Nuh to the district court to depose before the judge with their lawyer Mohammed Asad Hayat were attacked.

They noticed a Scorpio following them when they crossed Neemrana. The vehicle without a number plate was being driven by unknown persons who signalled them to stop.

The witnesses’ car was being driven by Amjad who did not stop the car. And when they dint stop the unknown assailants overtook them and even fired at them. They kept firing as they sped towards Behror.

Asad Hayat and the four witnesses took a U turn and drove to Alwar where they filed a complaint with the superintendent of Police.

It may be recalled that Pehlu Khan, a cattle trader who was travelling back to his village Nuh from Alwar with his sons and 2 others from his village last year in April 2017,  was attacked by a mob of cow vigilantes who call themselves ‘Gow rakshaks’. The cow vigilantes suspected Pehlu Khan and his companions to be smuggling cattle. Pehlu Khan succumbed to the injuries while the others recovered after suffering severe injuries.

Advocate Asad Hayat in his face book post has said though they are all safe at the moment, this attack was an attempt to stop the witnesses from deposing at the court.

And under such threatening circumstances it is difficult for the witnesses to testify as they are at risk. He felt that the case should be transferred from Behror to Alwar.
