Bijnor: The adage “Need is the mother of invention” has once again proven true, by a common man this time, in the small town of UP’s Bijnor. 26-year-old Mustaqeem had recently heard the word ‘sanitizer’ amid the corona scare, leading him to visit medical stores and inquire details about making, content, usage, and so on.

Having no money for the equipment, Mustaqeem started from scratch, taking help from his neighbor Abrar Ahmad for the manufacture. After a lot of dedication and hard work, Mustaqeem and Abrar have created what can be called a ‘sanitizer machine’, proving that the common man is equally prepared to fight the corona pandemic jointly with the government.

This unique innovation built in a cost effective and timely manner, has been the lead story in local dailies, making both Mustaqeem and Abrar no less than war heroes. It should be pointed here that corona is spreading rapidly in the country, with 14, 425 cases and 488 deaths. As the government struggles with this deadly virus, the common man is also involved in the battle, lending all help and support it can, from the confines of their homes. Mustaqeem is one such civilian who has built this sanitizing machine to secure the people of his village Ladpur from the infection. He has been using the machine of travelers and villagers alike, without costing any machine. He expressed that he does not want to earn from this, rather be of help to humanity with this endeavor.

The machine is fitted with a sensor, making it a full-body sanitizer. The sensors can detect a human body from vehicles. It can sanitize a person from top to toe, even a bicycle, in just a matter of 15 seconds. Mustaqeem, who is a BSc in Maths, has a keen interest in technology. His novel invention at a time of national medical emergency, proves so. He currently works in small scale electrical manufacturing and repairing electronic gadgets, having a shop of his own in Bijnor.

Mustaqeem narrated that he had heard the word ‘sanitizer’ frequently on TV and social media, but for him it was a relatively new idea. Feeding his curiosity, he visited local medical shops and got to know that sanitizers are used to disinfect hands. That is when the idea struck him, “Why would one sanitize just their hands and not the full body?” He decided then, he would make a full body sanitizing machine to serve the people of his town, free of cost.

“For the first time someone in Bijnor district has done something so unique to serve people relief at this difficult time,” says Khurshid Mansuri from the town. Like other residents. Khurshid is proud of Mustaqeem and Abrar’s achievement and adds that although this is just a small step in comparison to the government’s giant leaps, but the sanitizing machine built by a civilian with bare minimum resources shows that the country in one in fighting the corona battle.
