Karunakaran rushed to Vellore hospital in air ambulance

Thiruvananthapuram : Former Kerala chief minister and veteran Congress leader K. Karunakaran was Monday taken in an air ambulance to the Christian Medical College in Vellore for treatment.

Karunakaran, who touched 90 in July this year, had been hospitalised for the past several weeks due to falling sodium levels in his body. He will undergo specialised physiotherapy in Vellore, Tamil Nadu.

According to senior Congress leader Raj Mohan Unnithan, the ailing leader was taken in an ambulance from the Sree Chithra Thirunal Centre here to the airport. “From there, he was taken in an air ambulance that came from Chennai.”

Karunakaran is accompanied by his daughter and personal doctor.

He was seen off at the hospital by state Congress president Ramesh Chennithala and a large number of his close associates.
