New Delhi : Tibet’s spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, hospitalized on Thursday in the Indian city of Mumbai with abdominal discomfort, was discharged from hospital early on Monday, his aide said.
Tests have revealed that the 73-year-old Dalai Lama has no serious health problems, but doctors have advised him to cancel any trips and spend several days resting in Mumbai. His planned trips to Mexico and the Dominican Republic have now been cancelled.
It is still unclear when the spiritual leader will leave for his residence in the northern Indian town of Dharamshala.
According to a spokesman for the Dalai Lama, his hospitalization was caused by fatigue due to a large number of foreign trips. On August 12-23 the Dalai Lama he visited France for meetings with Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner and the French First Lady, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy.
The Dalai Lama, who fled Tibet in 1959, has repeatedly said he seeks autonomy for Tibet rather than independence from China. Beijing has demanded that the spiritual leader recognize Tibet as a part of China.
China accuses the Dalai Lama of masterminding the March protests that shook the region, a charge he denies.
