By DPA,
Hong Kong : Customs officers in Hong Kong said Tuesday they had intercepted a cargo of five million illicit cigarettes being smuggled by sea from China to Turkey.
The cigarettes, worth an estimated $900,000, were found in a container on its way from Yantian in Shenzhen, south China, that was declared as carrying liquid crystal displays.
The seizure is the biggest of illicit cigarettes so far this year in Hong Kong, a customs spokesman said, adding that the cargo’s final destination was Turkey.
Hong Kong is a major transit point for cargos being shipped from the Pearl River Delta in south China to Europe, the US and other points around the world.
