Baghdad : The Iraqi Ministry of Defence has reported that discussions were held here with British officials on the withdrawal of British forces from Iraq.
A ministry statement said Tuesday that Iraqi Minister of Defence Abdulqadir Mohammad Jassem Al-Obaidi received on Tuesday the British Deputy Commander of Strategic Operations Peter Woll, and the British Ambassador to Baghdad Christopher Prentice.
The statement added that the two sides discussed security and political issues in Iraq, in addition to the role played by the British forces in the south of Iraq.
They also discussed the withdrawal of British forces in 2009, and the signing of a training agreement between the two sides.
Britain deployed 4,500 soldiers within the multi-national forces in Iraq, mostly stationed in Basra, southern Iraq.
