Lucknow : Software packages developed in Australia will help the medical students of the Chhatrapati Sahuji Maharaj Medical University (CSMMU) here to conduct practical tests upon animals without injuring or killing them, an official said Tuesday.
“Called lab tutors, the software packages will enable the medical students to perform practical tests upon animals without dissecting them,” Sunita Tiwari, physiology department head of CSMMU, better known as the King George Medical University, told IANS.
The new technology-driven mode of conducting experiments on animals would definitely revolutionise the laboratory studies, she added.
According to officials, the software would demonstrate on a computer screen all the physiological activities of animals used for lab studies.
For using the lab tutors, one first needs to make the animal unconscious and attach one of two straps that come with the software, officials said.
By connecting the other strap with a computer, all physiological activities can be examined on the screen, officials added.
