Raipur : The Chhattisgarh government has cracked down on the unauthorised use of red and yellow beacon vehicles by its officials.
Amid rising complaints that officials were flouting directives issued by the authorities, the government issued a circular Thursday to immediately stop the unauthorised use of such vehicles, official sources told IANS.
Principal Secretary (Home and Transportation) N.K. Aswal issued the circular to principal secretaries and secretaries of all the departments.
Red beacon vehicles can only be used by the governor, chief minister and his ministerial colleagues, chief justice and judges of the high court, the assembly speaker, deputy speaker, parliamentary secretaries, leader of the opposition, the chief secretary, the director general of police and fire fighting vehicles, the circular said.
The government has permitted the use of yellow beacon vehicles only to the additional director general of police, inspector generals, district magistrates, district and session court judges, sub-divisional magistrates, deputy inspector generals, superintendents of police, city superintendents of police, city magistrates and national highway patrol vehicles.
