Lucknow : Authorities in Uttar Pradesh have ordered an inquiry after the police declared a 10-year-old boy a “habitual offender”, startling the family.
The matter came to light in Khurja locality in Bulandshahr district when the frightened boy and his father met District Magistrate Shashi Bhushan.
“Virendra Singh came with his son and showed a notice issued against his son by the city magistrate asking him to appear before the district court,” under section 110 G of the CrPC (Criminal Proceedure Code),” Shashi Bhushan, district magistrate, Bulandshahr, told IANS on phone.
Under Section 110 G a person has to give an undertaking of good conduct, backed with two sureties.
“We were surprised to see the notice against the boy, who is a student of Class 4. The senior superintendent of police has been asked to initiate an inquiry,” he added.
Initial investigations revealed that a relative of the boy lodged a police complaint against his father and him and the police started proceedings without verifying the complaint.
“The complainant mentioned the boy’s age as 18 and sub-inspector, Bachhu Singh, who was probing the case, recommended action without visiting Singh’s house,” said circle officer, Khurja, Ram Kala.
