New Delhi : The government will commission studies to identify job opportunities abroad for Indian nationals, it was announced here Friday.
This was decided at the first meeting of the Council for Promotion Overseas Employment of the ministry of overseas Indian affairs (MOIA).
The meeting, chaired by MOIA Secretary K. Mohandas, decided that the studies will be conducted into emerging labour supply gaps and skill shortages in the international labour market and the net availability of workers with requisite skills in India to fill up such shortages.
The study will seek to quantify the need for development of specific skills and their benchmarking, keeping in mind different destination countries, an official statement said.
The results of the study will help to standardize curriculum, testing and third-party certification and process re-engineering to discourage emigration of workers without appropriate skills, it added.
