Dubai : India is among a group of countries the Gulf foreign ministers will hold meetings with during the course of the ongoing 63rd session of the UN General Assembly.
The foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) held an annual coordination meeting ahead of the General Assembly meeting, the state-run Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported from New York.
GCC secretary general Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Atiyyah, who is also the head of the GCC Ministerial Council, said that during the meeting, the foreign ministers focused on all issues that they planned to take up in the course of their parleys in New York.
Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) comprise the GCC.
Apart from India, the foreign ministers will hold talks with the US, China, Russia, the European Union, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the countries of the Rio Group and Australia.
According to Al-Atiyyah, the GCC ministers also discussed coordination of positions and reviewed the political files, which would be presented to the foreign ministers of the friendly countries and groups, trade ties and other issues like sustainable development and climate change.
“Moreover, these meetings emphasize the care undertaken by the GCC foreign ministers on all subjects that could strengthen ties on issues of common concern,” he said.
Ambassadors of the GCC countries in Washington and New York, as well as the ambassador delegate of the GCC to the United Nations, also attended the meeting.
