Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rakesh Maria said on Friday “the plot was hatched by one brain and three groups comprising of five to six persons had planted bombs at three places.” The Bangalore blasts had occured on August 24 and the Ahmedabad explosions on August 25.

The bombs planted in Surat failed to explode due to a faulty digital timer used to trigger the explosives, Maria said.

Maria said the mastermind and founder member of Indian Mujahideen Roshan Khan alias Riyaz Bhatkal used to arrange for the money through hawala channels, vehicles to be used for the blasts and the explosives.

Mohammad Saddik Shaikh, one of the five persons arrested on Wednesday by the Mumbai Crime Branch, used to arrange for the boys and their training in weapon handling, Maria said.

He said the IM used to mail news channels taking responsibility for the blast as a publicity.

“The group has been bombing several cities in the country since 2005 but came to the fore only after the Bangalore blasts,” Maria said.
