Pakistan army loses 611 soldiers in 15 months fighting – officials

Rawalpindi : Pakistan Army has lost 611 soldiers in military operations against militants in the tribal regions and Swat valley in the northwest since July 2007, a senior security official said on Monday.

The security official at a press briefing said that overall 1622 army personal were also injured during the operations in the same period.

The security officials killed include 386 soldiers of army and 225 personal of Frontier Corps (FC).

Giving overall casualty figures in operations, he said a total of 2825 militants, including 581 foreigners, have been killed. A total of 1400 miscreants, including 311, have been injured so far. A total of 2774 militants, including 330 foreigners, have been arrested.

The official told the reporters that since July 2007, a total of 88 suicide attacks, 769 Improvised Explosives Devices explosions, 520 fire raids, 79 ambushes and 128 physical attacks had occurred.

He added that in those 88 suicide attacks a total of 1188 persons were killed and as many as 3209 injured.

Those who killed in suicide attacks included 174 army men, 45 FC personal, 145 police men and 847 civilians.

He said that those injured included 416 army men, 152 FC personal, 256 policemen and 2385 civilians.

From July to September 69 official were killed whereas 239 got inured.

In Swat valley since November 2007 till date, a total of 98 security officials were killed and 145 officials wounded.

In the military operation continued in tribal area since November 2007 till date, a total of 611 security officials were killed and 1622 wounded.

Those killed included 386 army men and 225 FC personal.

In Bajaur during July-September 2008, a total of 5 ambushes, 22 rocket attacks, IED 17, attacks 10 and abduction 03 have were reported, the officials said.
