Jamia to build more hostels to accommodate students

New Delhi: In view of the fact that a number of its students have been evicted by their landlords in Jamia Nagar following Batla House encounter and arrest of some students in connection with the Delhi serial bombings, Jamia Millia Islamia has decided to build some new hostels in its campus.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof Mushirul Hasan, has announced the immediate construction of new hostel buildings for both boys and girls.
The new Boys Hostel building shall accommodate 500 students and the Girls Hostel building shall accommodate 200 students. Both new buildings shall come up in the existing Boys and Girls hostel complexes, respectively. The university has announced that the Boys Hostel shall cost Rs 10 crore and the Girls Hostel Rs 5 crore.
The Vice Chancellor has assured that these buildings shall be completed at the earliest. RITES Ltd, a construction company, has been approached to undertake this building project. In fact, construction work shall commence on the understanding that both buildings will be ready for occupancy in eight months.
