Malegaon (Maharashtra): The way Indian intelligence and investigating agencies are conducting investigations into blasts is not in the national interest, said Maulana Mahmood Madani, Rajya Sabha MP and leader of Jamiat Ulama-I-Hind (JUH).
He further said that the problem lies in the fact that instead of doing a multi dimensional investigation in any incident they follow a set pattern and target a particular group.
The result is that the real culprits are roaming around freely and innocents and the marginalized are “encountered” and made responsible for actions of other people, Ummid.com quotes Maulana Madani saying.
The people who are in power and the investigative agencies will have to understand that rather than targeting a particular community or group, their investigation must be objective, honest, impartial and justified.
Substantiating his argument Maulana Madani pointed out that it was in the Malegaon itself that blasts occurred two years ago. Had the agencies tried to investigate the incident honestly, objectively and impartially and with the aim to expose the real culprits behind the blasts, the recent blasts could have been averted.
But the fact that the culprits managed to do the blast again itself proves that the incident had been investigated irresponsibly and dishonestly which is quite unfortunate, he said.
It is not too late. Even now the investigation can be conducted in a fair, multidimensional and objective way, so that whosoever be the culprit could be brought to book and punished, he said adding there shouldn’t be any relaxation or forgiveness in the punishment.
To a question he said that it is not that the campaign started by Deoband with the anti-terrorism conference last year has been unsuccessful because this year the blasts occurred more than the last year.
Explaining his view he said that it is the responsibility of the government and the agencies to provide and ensure security in the country and arrest the real culprit.
But being a part of the civil society it is the responsibility of JUH to condemn and create an opinion against terrorism. This was what JUH is doing, did and will keep on doing in the future.
He promised that now he will be doing it more strongly than ever before and take all steps to strengthen the voices against terrorism.
He accepted that in spite of calls from various quarters, secular, religious, social and human rights organizations that the scope of the investigations should be broadened and that the agencies must look for all the possibilities, there is no difference in the attitude of the government and the agencies.
Giving a reason of this mentality, he said the media have created an environment of panic over this issue so much so that neither an ordinary man nor an educated person cares to think beyond what is being shown to them in a highly sensationalized and charged way.
In this scenario, he said, there is the need to raise the saner voices in more forceful and organized way.
He further said that there are democratic ways of raising voices and highlighting issues which the JUH has always adopted in order to present its views, and will be doing the same in the future also.
He expressed the urgent need to start a joint antiterrorism campaign by the secular individuals, civil society of the country and the JUH.
