Kolhapur (Maharashtra) : A couple committed suicide after feeding poison to their two minor sons in Kalamwadi village of Maharashtra early Sunday, police said.
While the bodies of the couple and their older son were found this morning, the condition of the second son was said to be critical.
According to investigating officer Shubha Bhosale, the victims are Pandu Gundhe Lande, 25, his wife Lata, 25, and son Gunaji, 11. The eight-year-old son Saurabh was admitted to the Kolhapur Civil Hospital.
A suicide note found from the house in the village, around 150 kms from here, said the couple was tired of a fatal disease they had contracted and had decided to commit suicide, Bhosale said.
She said preliminary inquiries revealed that the couple had been suffering from a terminal disease.
Around Saturday midnight, the duo fed the two boys an unidentified poisonous substance and sent them to sleep. They also consumed the same and retired for the night.
Around 5.30 a.m., Saurabh woke up writhing in pain and found his elder brother and parents lying dead beside him.
The bodies have been sent to the Kolhapur Civil Hospital for an autopsy, Bhosale said.
