Chandigarh : The Haryana government Thursday announced that Friday would be observed as a public holiday for all women employees in the government on account of the Hindu festival of Karva Chauth.
There are thousands of women posted in government offices, educational institutes, boards and corporations in the state.
As Karva Chauth is a festival that sees married women keeping a day-long fast – during which they do not even consume water – to pray for the long lives of their husbands, all women working in government offices will find the going easier due to the holiday.
