New Delhi : Riding on an unbeaten century by opener Gautam Gambhir (149 batting), India were 296 for the loss of three wickets at stumps on the first day of the third cricket Test against Australia at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium here Wednesday.
Gambhir was involved in two century partnerships to stabilise the Indian innings after the loss of two early wickets. He added 130 runs with Sachin Tendulkar(68) for the third wicket , and then 139 with V.V.S. Laxman (batting 54) for the unfinished fourth-wicket partnership..
For Australia, Mitchell Johnson took 2-69.
