New Delhi : One more Royal Bengal tiger from Rajasthan’s Ranthambore National Park will be shifted to Sariska tiger reserve next week, officials said Friday.
“A couple of tigresses are already being radio-collared in Ranthambore but we are yet to decide which one to pick,” P.S. Somashekhar, Sariska park director, told IANS on phone.
“The tentative date would be fixed depending on the availability of a helicopter for transporting the animal. A meeting will be held tomorrow (Saturday) to take stock of the situation,” he said.
Earlier in July, a male and a female tiger had been trans-located from Ranthambore to Sariska as part of a plan to reintroduce tigers in the sprawling 866 sq km reserve after they were poached out of existence.
Currently, Rajasthan has about 32 tigers, including the two that were shifted to Sariska.
Sariska tiger reserve is located about 110 km from Rajasthan capital Jaipur.
The reserve is also home to leopards, different varieties of deer, jungle cats and birds, among others.
