Berlin : German Chancellor Angela Merkel joined other world leaders in congratulating Senator Barack Obama on his landslide win in the US presidential election.
She vowed to continue the close cooperation between Germany and the US.
Merkel said in her congratulatory message released Wednesday that she was convinced that under president-elect Obama, Europe and the US could meet the new global challenges through “close and trustful cooperation.”
The chancellor emphasized that her government had always been aware of the “significance and value of transatlantic partnership for our common future.”
Merkel who met the 47-year-old Obama in Berlin last July said she was looking forward to cooperating with the new designated US president.
