“The party has taken note of the protest in the Delhi University. We believe that the protest should have been more decent,” BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy told reporters.

A youngster, said to be a member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, Thursday spat on the face of Delhi University professor S.A.R. Geelani, who once faced a terror charge, during a seminar on communalism.

Asked why was the BJP not strongly condemning the incident, Rudy shrugged, “I have said what we wanted to say on the issue. We can only say that charged emotions of patriotic students cannot be ignored.”

Rudy added the meeting for Geelani was organised by “pseudo secularists and radical groups” and that there was never a “clean chit given to the person, who has had noted associations with terrorists”.
