Sheila Dikshit declares assets worth Rs.13 million

New Delhi : Sheila Dikshit, who has been the Delhi chief minister for 10 years, Monday filed her nomination from the New Delhi constituency and declared moveable and immovable assets of over Rs.13 million.

Accompanied by hundreds of cheering supporters, Dikshit filed the nomination at Jamnagar House in Shahjahan Road. Delhi will hold assembly polls Nov 29.

In her affidavit filed with returning officer Faizi O. Hashmi, Dikshit, who interestingly does not own a car, gave a break-up of her assets. These include a house in south Delhi’s upscale Nizamuddin locality with a current market value of Rs.6.3 million.

She has Rs.30,000 cash and deposits in banks, financial institutions and non-banking financial companies worth Rs.617,248.

The chief minister has also invested over Rs.3.9 million in various bonds, debentures and shares in government banks and private sector companies. Besides, she has invested over Rs.2 million in senior citizen’s saving schemes and other financial instruments like LIC and postal savings.

Dikshit has gold jewellery worth Rs.30,000 and silver articles and utensils worth Rs.167,450. She also owns gemstones of around Rs.146,000.

The chief minister has filed Rs.139,519 as income tax returns and property tax of Rs.11,904 in the current financial year.

After filing the nomination, Dikshit said: “I have full faith that the Congress will come back to power for a consecutive term and we will win with a big margin.”

“I am confident that I will win from my constituency,” said Dikshit.

Although no prominent face of the party accompanied her, she was joined by Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president J.P. Agarwal at the returning office.

Tuesday is the last date for filing nominations for the Delhi assembly polls being held Nov 29.
