New Delhi : Known for his managerial acumen and professional integrity, Delhi Metro managing director E. Sreedharan now wants to blaze a trail in bringing ethics, truthfulness and cultural values back in Indian society.
As the president of the Foundation for Restoration of National Values (FRNV), Sreedharan Wednesday said India’s record as a corrupt country is quite high and the organisation would try to “influence the influencers” to bring transparency.
“We dissociate ourselves from any religious and communal tinge. We would like to inculcate tolerance, truthfulness, ethics and national and cultural values among the leaders,” he said a select group of media persons.
“We are holding a national conference to deliberate and devise a way out for the value decline crisis of our country,” he added.
Under his guidance, the Delhi Metro has initiated a value inculcation drive among its commuters. The mass transit system of the capital has been announcing regularly that the elderly need to be cared for and seats should be vacated for them and women while travelling.
Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha, the man behind FRNV, said the conference “The National Value Crisis and its Redressal” to be organised Nov 18-19 will take the opinion of scores of leaders from politics, industry, judiciary and civil rights organisations.
“We want to bring change through emotional persuasion and rational compulsion. The summit aims to generate national thinking and perception,” Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha said.
He said several topics – like national values indispensable for the credibility of parliament, integrity in law enforcement, and ground and goal of administration – will be deliberated upon during the summit.
Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, BJP leader L.K. Advani, Chief Justice of India K.G. Balakrishnan, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, former president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, senior journalist M.J. Akbar, industrialist Jamshed J. Irani and Sreedharan are some of the key speakers who will “exhort people to become transparent” and restore India’s national values.
Industrialist Ratan Tata, former central vigilance commissioner N. Vittal and former chief justice M.N. Venkatachaliah are the prominent members of FRNV.
