Beirut : Lebanese Army Commander Gen. Michael Suleiman pledged Monday that his troops would "pluck out the thorns of terrorism one after the other from the body of the wounded homeland," local Naharnet news website reported.
Suleiman made the pledge in an Order of the Day to the troops marking the 62nd Army Day on August 1.
He was quoted as saying that the army has "succeeded in dismantling several terrorist networks in various Lebanese areas," referring to the ongoing clashes since May 20 with Fatah al-Islam militants and affiliated networks.
The Lebanese "will not fail in finding solutions to the various pending issues to facilitate and safeguard national unity," he added.
The Lebanese army have been battling with the militants of Fatah al-Islam in the Nahr al-Bared camp since May 20. This bloodiest internal violence since the Lebanese 1975-1990 civil war has killed more than 200 people.
The Lebanese government lists Fatah al-Islam as a terrorist network aimed at destabilizing Lebanon.
