Islamabad : Islamabad was witnessing diplomatic impetus on Wednesday amid renewed Indo-Pak tension in the aftermath of Mumbai terrorist attacks.
Admiral Michael Mullen, the US Chief of Staff, arrived here earlier Wednesday, on a brief visit ahead of the visit of Condoleezza Rice, the US Secretary of State, who was currently visiting New Delhi.
While the US top officials were visiting Islamabad, the Governor of North-West Frontier Province (NWFP) went on a day-long visit to Kabul, the capital of war-ravaged Afghanistan, and the President was scheduled to leave for Turkey later today.
A five-member British Naval delegation also arrived here on a four-day visit.
Admiral Mullen met with his Pakistani counterpart, Ashfaq Pervez Kayani, and also General Tariq Majeed, Chairman Joint Chief of Staff.
Official sources told KUNA that he was also scheduled to hold a meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani.
Sources said the matters related to renewed Indo-Pak tension as well as security along the Pak-Afghan border and bilateral cooperation in the ongoing war against terrorism were discussed during the meetings.
The US Secretary of State is also scheduled to visit Islamabad on Thursday.
Pakistan has been pressurized by the US to extend all possible cooperation to India in investigating the Mumbai terrorist attacks.
On Tuesday, Pakistan reiterated its offer to India to form a joint investigating mechanism in this regard.
Also, the NWFP Governor, Awais Ghani, traveled to Afghanistan on a day-long visit to hold talks with Afghan leadership on bilateral interests.
