The teenager was rushed to a local hospital but died upon arrival, triggering hundreds of youths in the area to begin attacking other police cars.

Police responded by firing tear gas at the group of youths, causing havoc in central Athens where traffic has been blocked off. Locals rushed for cover and restaurants closed their doors to customers.
